The Geary County Commission has been working to prepare the county budget for 2020. Right now the general consensus of the governing body is to consider publication of a proposed spending plan that includes a slight property tax levy increase of about one half mill.

Commissioner Keith Ascher said they have emphasized taking care of core county services in this spending plan. “We’re trying to take care of our own, but as far as where we’re at, we’re looking at a slight increase, maybe a half mill at this point. So that’s kind of where we’re at.”

The commission will consider the budge for publication on Monday. Once that occurs there would be a public hearing on August 19th with a final vote on August 26th.
