Junction City Firefighters respond to structure fire

Junction City firefighters were dispatched to 336 West 1st Street at 2:15 a.m. Saturday for a structure fire. Fire Chief Terry Johnson said first arriving units reported smoke showing and fire from one window on the side of the house. A total of 15 firefighters responded to the scene.

Crews gained access through the front door and encountered fire upon entry in the living room, dining room and front bedroom of the house which was determined to be vacant at the time of the fire. Kansas Gas and Westar Energy were notified and utilities have been secured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no injuries.

The estimated damage totaled $10,000.
