The Geary County Commission will have some decisions to make on the 2020 county budget. Commission chairman Charles Stimatze confirmed they need to cut at least 5.3 mills in the proposed property tax levy to avoid an election to increase the levy beyond the state-allowed property tax lid.
Stimatze made it clear the county will not seek an election and the budget proposals will be trimmed down. He said the governing body will continue their work on preparation of the spending plan during a work session at 10 a.m. this Friday. “Just to go over the budgets and start working on that.” Budget preparation will continue on through July.
