A Transportation Alternatives grant from the state will help fund a new sidewalk project in Junction City. It will extend from Rucker Road on the west to Eisenhower Drive and south to Homer’s pond.
The Public Works Director for the City of Junction City. Ray Ibarra, said new sidewalk will be added from Rucker Road to Eisenhower Drive and that will connect to existing sidewalks along Eisenhower. Then a stretch of new sidewalk will need to be installed farther south to Homer’s Pond.
Ibarra said you will be able to ride a bicycle on part of the trail, the newer 10-foot wide portions. The work on the project could start as early as July of this year and as late as March of 2020. It will finish one of the longest stretches of sidewalk in Junction City, said Ibarra. “It will be one of our longest stretches because you’ll be able to go all the way from Spring Valley Road all the way out to Homer’s Pond.”
Ibarra noted that KDOT set the range for the start time in order to get a better bid, “giving the contractors amount of time to get this project put in.”
