Shelby Lynn Orton Settle

Shelby Lynn Orton Settle, 26, of Alma, Kansas, died Tuesday, May 28, 2019, near Alma.  She was a life-long resident of the community.

Shelby was born on July 18, 1992, in Topeka, Kansas.  She was the daughter of Mike and Susan Orton.  Shelby attended local schools and graduated in 2010 from Wabaunsee High School.

She married Nate Settle on May 19, 2017, in Alma.  He survives at their home.

Shelby worked several years for Farm Bureau Insurance Company doing clerical work.  Shelby loved taking long walks and going fishing with Nate.  She loved all animals, especially her pets; two cats, Kita and Luna, numerous pet rats and many fish.  Shelby was an artist and enjoyed drawing horses and landscapes.  She also enjoyed sewing, working jigsaw puzzles and listening to music and playing the piano.

Shelby is also survived by her parents, Mike and Susan Orton, Alma; her siblings, Carol Cubie (Bruce), Manhattan, Todd Orton (Heather), Maple Hill, Tyler Orton (Julie), St. George, Chance Orton (Emily), Lawrence and Brianna Orton (Travis Coots), Topeka; her father-in-law, Derek Settle, Ackworth, Georgia; her mother-in-law, Katherine Settle, McFarland; her grandparents-in-law, Dean Settle (Harriet), Lincoln, Nebraska and Mary Ellen Settle, Wichita; and nieces and nephews, Spencer, Ramsey, Breckin, Talen, Cyler, Lilah, Avah and Adeline.

A private family inurnment is planned.  The family suggests memorial contributions to the T. Russell Reitz Animal Shelter in Manhattan, and those may be sent in care of Campanella-Gentry Funeral Home.
