Daniel Jackson is the new Geary County Sheriff!
Jackson was the recommendation of the Geary County Republican Central Committee and was approved by the governor. He took the oath of office Thursday afternoon at the Geary County Office Building.
The new sheriff said he’s ready to get started in the job. ” I’m excited about this. It’s going to be an honor to serve.”
Jackson served two former stints with the Sheriff’s Department, holding duties ranging from Deputy and Patrol Lieutenant to Detective. He is a retired military service member.
Jackson confirmed that Captain Eric Coffman is being promoted to Undersheriff. The current undersheriff, Brad Clark, will be retiring in the near future. A check with the Sheriff’s Department indicated Clark’s last day on the job will be Monday, but his retirement will not be formal until a later time. Clark, who served as Acting Sheriff in recent months, has been employed as undersheriff since 2012.
Jackson will fill the unexpired sheriff’s term following the resignation of Tony Wolf, which occurred after Wolf’s convictions on one felony count of theft and one misdemeanor count of Misuse of Public Funds.
The unexpired term will run until January of 2021. Jackson has confirmed he does intend to seek future election to a full four-year term as sheriff.
