The C.L. Hoover Opera House has received a $5,000 grant to update stage lighting to LED instruments. The was provided by the Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission. A matching $5,000 has been donated by the Jellison Foundation along with funding Friends of the Opera House. The money was used to order nine new Colorado 2 quad instruments and to expand the capacity of the lighting board.

Opera House Co-Director Joe Markley stated, “The great thing about the LED lights, they’re not only more efficient in terms of electricity so they don’t cost as much to run, but we can display about every color of the rainbow on those and not have to go up and change a gel or color thing in there.”

Markley noted that the lights are manufactured by the Chauvet Corporation. They will provide deeper, more saturated colors and enhance the on-stage productions at the Opera House.

This project is phase two of lighting improvement on the Opera House stage. Lasts year six new LED lighting instruments were added for the cyclorama and there was an expansion of the wireless DMX capability.
