The Junction City Blue Jays used an inbound alley-oop pass play from Darrin Battiste to Qua’vez Humphreys with seventh-tenths of a second remaining to defeat the Topeka West Chargers 86-84 in the capitol city.

Battiste tossed above the defense toward the rim, Humphreys leaped up and grabbed it and fired a shot off of the backboard for the game winning two points just ahead of the final buzzer Tuesday night. Junction City had rallied from a 21-point second half deficit to get the win, their tenth of the season.

Humphreys told JC Post, “Darrin threw a beautiful pass, had a good screen from Aaron ( hamilton ). We just executed it.” The play is one the Blue Jays practice on a regular basis.  Also, for Junction City A. J. Dickerson scored 30 points but went down with a knee injury late in the game. He was able to walk a few minutes later, however.

In the girls varsity game the Lady Jays turned in their best performance of the season to date, but came up short against Topeka West 51-44. It was a game that saw Junction City leading at one time 36-26. But in the final quarter Junction City scored just eight points as the Chargers rolled on past them to the win.

Both Junction City teams are hosting Topeka Seaman at the Shenk and Fiffe Gym this evening. The game times have been moved up due to anticipated winter weather. The girls varsity and JV boys games will tip off at 4:30 p.m. in the Shenk and Fiffe gyms respectively. The boys varsity game is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Shenk Gym while the girls JV game will be at 6 p.m. in the Fiffe Gym.
