It was the biggest rally ever for a Kansas State basketball team.

K-State rallied from 21 points down to edge West Virginia ( 8-7 )  71-69 at Bramlage Coliseum Wednesday night. The Director for Men’s Basketball Communications Tom Gilberg, confirmed It was the largest comeback for a win by a Wildcat basketball team in school history, eclipsing an 18 point rally for a win over Missouri on February 19th, 1977.

The Wildcats ( 11-4 ) trailed by 21 points in the second half, but then scored 17 unanswered points and finally got their first lead at with just 2:30 remaining in the game when Xavier Sneed hit a 3-point shot and one free throw. The winning points proved to be a layup by Barry Brown with :29 seconds remaining with Sneed hitting a free throw with :3 seconds remaining in the contest to give K-State the final two point margin.  Brown led Kansas State with 29 points while Mike McGuirl came off the bench to score 18 for the Wildcats.

On the win Wildcat coach Bruce Weber said, “it is hard to even explain, to be honest.” West Virginia coach Bob Huggins said K-State made shots and the Mountaineers didn’t. ” We trusted people in some iso that did not get it done and they trusted people in iso that did get it done. It is my fault. I am in charge of picking the right guy and obviously I did not pick the right guy. It falls on my shoulders.”

Attendance for the contest was listed at 9,590.
