Season Ends for Blue Jays

The Junction City Blue Jays saw their football season come to an end with a 25-15 loss to the Dodge City Red Demons Friday night in the first round of the Class 6A postseason playoffs.

Dodge City jumped out to a 10-0 first quarter lead and never trailed in the contest, although the Blue Jays pulled to within four at 19-15 in the third quarter. But the Junction City rally stopped there as the Red Demons tacked on a fourth quarter touchdown on a 10-yard run by John Johnson to go up 25-15.

Two fumbles and stalled drives were costly for Junction City in the ballgame. Blue Jay coach Randall Zimmerman said the team had opportunities to win, but there were the two first half fumbles. ” Did not get started offensively at all. Defensively I thought we played very very hard. We were just out there too long.”

Junction City finished the season with a final record of 4-5, and on a three-game losing streak. Dodge City improved to 6-3, and will advance to the second round of the playoffs against Derby ( 9-0 ).
