There are 97 Soldiers and 49 host families participating in the Home Away from Home program coordinated by Junction City Commissioner Phyllis Fitzgerald.

During a visit on the JC Now show on 1420 KJCK AM, 107.9 FM, it was noted that Fitzgerald has applications from Soldiers wanting to enter the program. Host families are needed. “As I get host families I will start comparing their likes and interests and work on making that connection. ”

Fitzgerald said the families will meet the Soldiers. “A lot of the host families will stay in touch with their Soldier, text or call. A lot of the Soldiers today they do like to text and the Soldier will check in with their host family.” No specific time commitment is needed for families. For example you might have a Soldier over to your home for dinner or attend an event together.
