Grain rescue equipment can be used to rescue individuals trapped in silos or grain bins.
The Junction City Fire Department has acquired the equipment, financed by donations and $570 in City funding.
Fire Chief Terry Johnson said if you’re trapped in grain it’s important to stay calm. “That’s the most important thing. Try not to have anybody jump on top of the grain and move around, because the more you shift that grain…it’s more of a semi-liquid state. The more you shift that grain the more potential for that person to sink.”
In addition to the Junction City Fire Department the equipment could be used by other agencies or departments including the Geary County Rural Fire Department.
