The Geary County Sheriff’s Department has reported that Deputies responded to U.S. 77 Highway early Thursday morning for a two vehicle rollover accident.

Ferrel Smith, Herington, was traveling south bound in a 1996 Ford Explorer when he fell asleep behind the wheel.  His vehicle crossed into the north bound lanes of travel. Amanda Egbert, Herington, was traveling north bound in a 2007 GMC Sierra when she swerved to miss Smith’s vehicle. Egbert lost control of the Sierra and it rolled into the west ditch. Smith continued into the east ditch where his vehicle also rolled.

Egbert was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The Sheriff’s Department reported that Smith was treated on the scene.

The accident was reported to authorities at 6:13 a.m.
