Approximately 625 Geary USD 475 third-grade students paid a visit to the county 4-H Center for the annual Agriculture Day event.
Extension Agent Ginger Kopfer said there was an attempt to teach the students what animals produce different types of foods. “So like bacon comes from a pig, your hamburger comes from a cow, that sort of thing as well as byproducts. Thinks like leather that makes footballs, or just anything like soap has tallow in it which comes from the animals.”
There were both classroom and livestock presentations, and the students had a chance to spend time at a dairy station.
