Manhattan Wins Nail Biter over Junction City

The Junction City Blue Jay – Manhattan boys basketball game Tuesday night went to overtime courtesy of a shot by Tye Dale in the closing seconds that knotted the game at 56-56. But in the extra session the Indians made enough plays to grab a 65-61 win over the Blue Jays.

Junction City coach Nick Perez said the Blue Jays had their opportunities. “I’m proud of our guys and the way they fought tonight. I thought they played with a lot of energy and a lot of passion. ” Perez told his team that they need to bring that every game.

Perez noted the Blue Jays made a couple of mistakes late in regulation and overtime. “I give credit to Manhattan. Coach George is a great coach and they did exactly what they needed to do to win.”

Junction City ( 7-12 ) got 18 points from their senior post player Xavier Cason while Manhattan ( 10-9 ) got 18 from Carson Marsh and 15 from John Ostermann.

The Blue Jays jumped out to a 10-2 lead to start the game but Manhattan battled back and led by three at halftime. The Indians had the lead in the stretch run of the fourth quarter before Dale’s big shot from the right wing tied the game and forced overtime.

Junction City will play at Washburn Rural Friday night.

In the girls game Manhattan ( 17-2 ) dominated the contest and defeated the Lady Jays ( 5-14 )  63-28.

Alana Kramer did score 14 points for Junction City while Manhattan four players score in double figures.
