The Topeka West Chargers used a smothering defense to hold Junction City to just 13 points in the first half enroute to a 47-37 win over the Blue Jays at the Shenk Gym Tuesday night.
The Chargers ( 12-5 ) used a 2-2-1 full court and zone defense in the half court to hinder the Blue Jays as they brought up the court.
Junction City Coach Nick Perez noted in the first quarter the Blue Jays had never practiced against the 2-2-1. “And it’s frustrating for us, but we’ve got to do a better job as coaches of teaching it and getting our kids to execute stuff.” Perez referred to Topeka West coach Rick Bloomquist. ” I give ) Coach Bloomquist credit. He does what he does and he’s a good coach.”
Despite the tough first half, Perez felt the Blue Jays competed in the second half of the ballgame.
Junction City ( 7-10 ) hosts Seaman Friday night.
