Trae McDaniel got the pitch he wanted, swung and his single to right field scored Garrett Francis to give the Junction City Brigade a 7-6 come from behind win in nine innings over the Topeka Golden Giants at Rathert Field Saturday night.
McDaniel saw a fastball. “A fastball, knew it was coming. Just decided to hop on the first pitch.”
The Brigade trailed 6-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning but put six runs on the board to tie the game. Then relief pitcher Nate McBroom struck out six Golden Giants in three innings to get the pitching victory.
It was the second extra inning game of the day between the two teams who were slated to play two seven-inning games. In the first contest Junction City trailed 8-2 before tying the game in the late innings. But the Golden Giants scored one run in the top of the eighth to go ahead and held on to get the victory 9-8.
Junction City is 13-9 while the Golden Giants are 14-7 on the season.
