Geary County is taking measures to eradicate termites from the Geary County Extension Office Building.

County Commission Chairman Ben Bennett said they were discovered by Extension Agent Chuck Otte. “Exterminators are going to treat it. It’s going to cost us $1,013, and then we’re going to enter into a maintenance agreement with them for $185 ( per year ). That maintenance agreement is designed to keep the termites out of the building.

During an Extension Department report to the commission the governing body learned the spring and summer agriculture crops are unpredictable at this point because of all the rain, and problems that may cause for the growth process. That could have a negative impact on yields.

The Extension Department will have an exofficio non-voting position on the Live Well Geary County.
