Brigade Sweep Independence

The Junction City Brigade ( 11-6 ) turned in clutch plays in the late innings to sweep a doubleheader from the Independence Veterans ( 11-9 ) 3-0 and 3-2 in eight innings Monday evening at Rathert Field.

In game one with the score tied at 0-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Junction City’s Colin Chandler drew a walk and was followed by Franky Valley with a single, Brett Nickle with a walk, and a single byAlex Weiss enroute to scoring three runs. Blake Grelheisl went on the distance on the mound for the win.

In game two the game went to extra innings tied 2-2, but in their at bat in the eighth Cole Henley doubled, and advanced to third on a throwing error by Independence. Henley then scored after a single to left field by Cole Brecheisen to give Junction City a 3-2 win.

The two teams play Tuesday night in a doubleheader in Independence.
