Christopher’s Pins for a Purpose is a fundraiser scheduled April 2 at the Little Apple Lanes in Manhattan from noon to 3 p.m.  The goal is to raise money for the Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood Foundation.

The event is spearheaded by Eden Briscoe, Fort Riley, who has channeled her efforts into this cause following the death of her own 15-month son, Christopher, on Easter 2015.  “Christopher was a typical happy 15-month old little boy, not a thing wrong with him. We had a really good day on the day before Easter went to a birthday party, went to bed normal. We went to go get him up to open his Easter basket, and we found him lifeless in his bed.”

Briscoe said they thought they were past the possibility of SIDS, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. “And we later found out that it wasn’t SIDS, it was the SUDC, or Sudden Unexplained Death of a Child…any child over 12 months.”

Briscoe reported that about 350 children died from SUDC each year, and no one knows why.

All funds raised from the bowling on April 2 will go to the SUDC Foundation to assist their efforts on support services for families. Registration for participants is open. They would like to have 120 bowlers, and there will be prizes.  In order to register go to www.sudc.org/christopherscrusaders. To become a sponsor for this event go to that same web address. The cost to bowl is $22.50, and that covers the cost of bowling, shoe rental, and lunch. There will be a children’s area as well.

Briscoe said she would like to undertake this event every year. She is support others who have helped with the planning and coordination.
