The movie ‘Bender,’ filmed partially in Geary County was due to premiere at the C.L. Hoover Opera House in July.

But now that will not occur.

The Director of the Geary County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Connie Hall said Monday due to distribution factors beyond the control of the CVB will not be shown in Junction City in July as planned. They are seeking to reschedule it for later in the fall, but no other details are available at this time.

The Bender family operated an inn and general store in Labette County from 1871 to 1873. They killed approximately a dozen travelors and buried them in their apple orchard, but fled once the crimes were discovered. Their location after that is unknown.
