Buzzer Beater Sinks Blue Jays

small blue jayDaishoun Fox hit a 3-point shot just ahead of the buzzer to lift the Highland Park Scots over the Junction City Blue Jays ( 7-9 ) 45-42 in basketball on Friday night at the Shenk Gym.

The game-winning shot came after Highland Park held the ball and the Blue Jays did not come out on the Scots defensively for approximately about two minutes late in  the game. Following two timeouts Highland Park then played the ball inbounds to guard Malik Keith. He got the ball to Fox who moved to the left wing and fired in the long-range shot to lift the Scots to the win.

Blue Jay coach Pat Battle  said, “They got a good kid, and he dribbled in and shot it from 35-feet to win it. That’s basketball.”

Both teams ran a tough zone defense, hampering the offenses for much of the game.

The Junction City Lady Jays picked up their second win of the season with a 53-42 victory over Highland Park Friday night.

The Lady Jays led by 17 points before Highland Park rallied to within five. Junction City managed to widen the gap in the closing minutes.

Lady Jay coach Derek Petty stated,” We held on down the stretch. We settled down, made some free throws. I believe we shot over 70 percent, ( from the free throw line ) last I had checked. That’s definitely a positive.”

Friday evening was the Winter Homecoming night at JCHS.

Jamia Bell was named the 2016 Senior Queen of Courts, and Robert Long the 2016 Senior King of Courts during a ceremony between the Lady Jay and Blue Jay varsity basketball games.
