The Junction City Blue Jays outscored Hayden 18-6 in the overtime period to defeat the Wildcats 64-52 at the Shenk gym Tuesday night.
The game was tied 46-46 at the end of regulation, but led by 10 points from TJ Poole in the overtime, Junction City was able to get the win.
Blue Jay coach Pat Battle said, “That thing was tough as nails. They’re really a good team. Hayden plays with such discipline, they play really hard, they’re intelligent, and I thought we did a great job of showing and displaying our intelligence and playing intelligent basketball tonight, staying disciplined and being patient, and perservering.”
Hayden had an opportunity to win at the end of regulation but were unable to score in the closing seconds, sending the contest to overtime.
The teams traded baskets to begin the extra session, but then the Blue Jays pulled away. Both teams are 7-8 on the season.
TJ Poole led the Blue Jays with 27 points while Ricardo Erans had 21. For Hayden Deshawn Hanika had 16 points.

In girls basketball Hayden rolled to a 71-55 victory over the Lady Jays.
Hayden took charge in the second quarter by outscoring the Lady Jays 18-9 in that period. The Wildcats got 14 points from Preston Reid, while Junction city was led by 15 points from both Kealee Rains and A’kia Fain.
Hayden improved to 13-2 while the Lady Jays fell to 1-14.
