Lady Jays Fall to Emporia 61-39

In the consolation semifinals of the Glacier Edge Girls Basketball Tournament in Emporia Friday the Junction City High School Lady Jays fell to Emporia 61-39.

After coming out hot and finding seven points from Ally McKenzie insmall blue jay the first quarter the Lady Jays had an 11-9 lead going into the 2nd quarter. But Emporia found their shot in the second quarter and held the Lady Jays to just four points from the charity stripe taking a 28-15 lead into halftime.

Junction City wasn’t able to get much else done in the second half, as Emporia ran away with it.

The Lady Jays were led in scoring by McKenzie who finished with a season best 17 points.

They move on to the 7th place game Saturday morning at 11 am against Wichita Southeast, who fell to Topeka West 47-44 in double overtime. Emporia will go on to face Topeka West in the 3rd place game. On the championship side Hutchinson will face Goddard-Eisenhower in the 3rd place game and Leavenworth takes on Olathe South in the championship game.
