Kansas State Surges Past Texas Tech for First Conference Win 83-70

Kansas State opened up their two game home stand with an 83-70 win over Texas Tech Tuesday night, giving them their first win in Big 12 play this season.

The offensive struggles that has plagued the Wildcats for most of the season seemed to be non-existent for the most KSU TTU 1-12part in the victory. Kansas State had five players in double figures with Wesley Iwundu and Kamau Stokes leading the Wildcats with 17 points a piece. The Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, Barry Brown finished with 15 points followed by Justin Edwards with 11 and Dean Wade with 10.

After opening Big 12 play on a 0-3 losing streak Head Coach Bruce Weber said he knew it wasn’t time to panic.

“After the Oklahoma game, that’s one thing I told the coaches, we can’t panic. We’ve lost to West Virginia, who is now a top 10 team, you lost to Oklahoma who was 1/2 in the country, and Texas on the road who was just beating Iowa State,” said Weber. “We had to critique some things, we had to change some things, execute a little better. But we had to keep their spirits up, keep their energy up, I think that was the most important thing.”

Kansas State improved to 11-5 on the season and 1-3 in Big 12 play. They will now host No. 17 Iowa State Saturday at Bramlage Coliseum. The Cyclones are coming off a 94-91 OT loss to Texas Tuesday.
