Clide “Elaine” (Grover) Dannelley

Clide “Elaine” (Grover) Dannelley, 83 of Abilene passed away Thursday, May 2, 2019 after a short illness at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka.

She was born October 23, 1935 in Montour Falls, NY; the daughter of Clyde and Agnes (Rumsey) Grover. She is preceded in death by her first husband Donald R. Dannelley, second husband; Fred A. Davis and one brother, Chester Grover.

Surviving are her children: Wendy Fielder and husband Jesse of Abilene; Maxine Smith of Marion, SD. Grandchildren: Holly White and husband Casey of Lincoln, NE and Kimberlie Knust of Lincoln, NE. Great-grandchildren: Jillian White, Alana Knust, Gauge Knust and one step-great-grandchild, McKenzie White. Siblings: John Grover, Leo Grover, Ella Detrick, Marie Wilcox and Peggy Dannelley.
Elaine earned her Bachelors of Science Degree at Elmira College in NY and she taught elementary science at Knightsen Elementary School in California up to her retirement. She was also a member of The American Legion for over 50 years. She started later in life but began showing horses around the age of 50 and she loved every minute of it. Among many other accomplishments and talents; she was an avid lover of animals and horses and still had a small farm at the time of her death.

The family has chosen cremation and will have a private celebration of life at a later date. Elaine will be buried next to her first husband Donald in California. The family suggests memorials be given to the Abilene Public Library or the First United Methodist Church of Abilene. Memorials may be dropped off or mailed to Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW Third St., Abilene, Kansas 67410.
