Richard Herbel

Richard Herbel, 75, of Solomon passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Memorial Hospital. He was born in Marion County December 7, 1943 the son of Alex and Bernice (Johnston) Herbel . He graduated from Centre High in Lost Springs in 1961. On January 19, 1964 he was united in marriage to Sharon Craft. Richard worked in the law enforcement at the Herington Police Department, Dickinson County Sherriff’s Department, Under Sherriff of Dickinson County and the Abilene Police Department. After law enforcement he worked at Yellow Freight for 28 years where he retired at the age of 59. He was a longtime member of the Abilene Elks, Community Bible Church of Abilene and the Central City Street Rods of Salina.

Richard is survived by his loving wife Sharon of the home. Daughters: Shelly Cole of Abilene and Julie Klein (Joe) of Abilene and one son, Scott Herbel (Carrie) of Solomon. Grandchildren: Danya Dent (Weston) of Salina, Keenan Cole (Ashley) of Enterprise, Quentin Cole (Kayla) of Abilene, Weston Klein (Brecken) of Manhattan, Evan Klein and Jenna Klein of Abilene and Alex Herbel and Sara Herbel of Solomon and nine great-grandchildren and one brother, Ronald Herbel (Ruth) of Marion and sister-in-law Darlene Herbel of Salina. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Kenneth Herbel and son-in-law Steve Cole.

Funeral services for Richard will be 10:30 A.M., Monday, March 18, 2019 at the Community Bible Church in Abilene with Pastor Lindsey Brummer officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Mound Cemetery in Solomon. Family will receive friends 2-4 P.M., Sunday, March 17, 2019 at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Dickinson County or to the Community Bible Church of Abilene and may be sent in care of the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW Third St., Abilene, Kansas 67410.
