Road and street crews have been out working late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning to deal with the ice and snow on roadways.
Junction City Public Works Director Ray Ibarra said early Thursday morning that people need to understand they need to take their time traveling. “And if they don’t have to go out I wouldn’t be traveling right now. ”
Ibarra said Junction City crews plowed and put down salt, but with the cold temperatures it will take a long time for the road salt to activate.
Thunder sleet rumbled through the Geary County area about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. There was lightning and thunder, and then sleet fell on the area. Ibarra could only remember one previous experience with that type of weather condition, adding it’s the first one he could remember in a long time.
