Geary County is in a drought emergency.
Chuck Otte, Extension Agent, said a dry spot that has landed in this part of Kansas this year has been moving across the state in recent years. In the Geary County the corn crop is in trouble.
Otte said now is a crucial period, with the next 10-14 days when a lot of early kernal development will occur. Rain is needed but that may not occur. “If it is not irrigated it is probably not going to be harvested for grain. One way or another it’s going to go into livestock feed.”
Otte was a guest on the JC Now program on 1420 KJCK AM. You can hear that interview on JC Post by going into the 1420 KJCK tab and going down to the JC Now site.
