With the Kansas Vietnam Veterans Memorial in the backdrop, Major General John Kolasheski noted on July 4th that over the years America has called its’ sons and daughters to defend freedom, and the ideas first penned in the Declaration of Independence.

During his keynote comments at the Veterans Ceremony in Junction CIty’s Heritage Park Kolasheski stated, “Often these same sons and daughters paid the ultimate sacrifice in the service of others. We gather today to lay a wreath in remembrance of their gift to us. Many of you here today have answered the call, from World War Two to the most recentĀ  conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

The commanding general of the 1st Infantry Division told the audience the wreath was being laid in front of the Vietnam Memorial, remembering over 700 Kansans who gave their lives. “I offer my sincerest gratitude to those Soldiers, their families and their loved ones.”

Kolasheski concluded by saying, “For those here who left American soil to defend our freedom in VIetnam and elsewhere, welcome home. Thank you for what you have done for us and for future generations of proud Americans.”
