Teacher contract talks continued this week in Geary USD 475.

The focus was on teacher plan periods.
Junction City Education Association President Cathy Rankin explained that they’re looking for a solution to balance their plan periods. “Sometimes we have difficulty finding time for teachers to do everything that they need to do, whether it’s planning for a classroom, or collaborating, or getting professional development. ”
Rankin noted the JCEA is interested in protecting teacher’s plan time so that their classrooms and the information they teach is ready for use in the classroom.
Some problems identified include a lack of substitutes, forcing teachers to sub during their plan periods, as well as having meetings scheduled during their plan times.
Rankin said they’re continuing to work out a solution for the issues with District administrators.
