Munson Prime Targeting July Opening

A new steakhouse will open in Junction City this summer. But the operation at the corner of Goldenbelt Boulevard and South Jackson Street will be much, much  more.

Deanna Munson said that the name will be “Munson Prime.”

That will include an “upper end” steakhouse as  one feature, but there are also plans to relocate their retail beef store from North Jackson to the new site effective Friday April 18.  Eventually beginning in July, the site will also include an ice cream store with a drive-through featuring Munson homemade ice cream, and then during the mid-day hours the same farm meals will be served that are served to Munson Angus Farms ranch and farm crews.

Munson said the beef store will maintain their current limited hours on Monday’s, Friday’s, and Saturday’s,  until the entire Munson Prime business is open.

The ice cream store with the drive-through will feature the homemade ice cream that the Munson Family has become known for in recent years. “Everyone in Junction City needs to come get a cup just to see this apparatus the Munson’s have built. If anyone’s been to Silver Dollar City they have seen something similar in the ice cream store. ”  Basically, four homemade ice cream freezers are operated inside the facility. “And it is quite an interesting piece, and people will be able to watch the ice cream being made. ” There will be an ice cream shop inside the business, along with the drive-through.

The farm meals are the same as those that have always been served to the Munson ranch and farm crews during the noon hour.  Those will be posted online allowing the public to see the food items being served that day. “And we will serve to others, other than our own farm crew during the hours of probably 11 ( a.m. ) to 1:30 ( p.m. ).”

Munson said when the facility is complete they will eventually have an upper end steakhouse – restaurant.  ” And we will be serving our steaks in somewhat of a family style approach. Those folks who have eaten at “Brookville” will have some idea of the concept we’re working with for the steakhouse. Of course we’ ll have a full bar and a lounge that goes along with that.”  She added they are hoping to open the entire operation in July, and are assuming they will be open by the first of August.

Munson noted the interior of the building has been gutted and will be totally redone in an upscale fashion, and the outside of the structure will also be remodeled before the full facility is in operation.

Deanna Munson said the family will still continue to conduct their agri-tourism operation at their ranch west of Junction City for the people who want that, but the food will be prepared at the restaurant and then taken to the ranch. “Secondly we think Junction City needs an upper end steakhouse restaurant that has prime meat and has the ambience of that type of approach. So it’s a combination of getting all of our parts into one place, and also giving Junction City something that we’ve never had….a total prime type of steakhouse in Junction City, to my knowledge in the years that I’ve lived here.”

The Charles  and Deanna Munson family  also own Munson Angus Farms and the Black Horse Hitch agri-tourism business in Geary County.
