Mike Harris, Acorns Resort Owner, along with a representative from his attorneys law firm met with the Geary County Commission Monday.

Larry Hicks, Commission Chair, explained that Harris was looking for approval of his project. “To which the board could not do on today because of the recommendations from our legal council in regard to were we are in the area of proceeding with the Acorns project itself.”

Hicks explained that the commission has never been opposed to the project and stated on record today that,”the board has never expressed publicly been against or expressed any opposition to the development of his project.”

The commission requested specific information regarding the development of a lagoon that would serve the project. Harris was able to present the commission with a permit he had obtained for a two cell lagoon that would be fully capable of providing the size of project he is proposing.

“Now we’ll move forward to the final aspects of it in terms of giving final approval on just what type of structure of development agreement we’ll have with it,” Hicks said.

Hicks did confirm that Harris is not seeking any public tax dollars for assistance in the financing of the project.
