Roughly 260 people turned out for last nights Junction City Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner.
This years keynote speaker was Will Shields who spent 14 seasons with the
Kansas City Chiefs as an offensive lineman, was selected to 12 pro-bowls and in 2012 was inducted into the Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Fame.
During Shields’s speech he focused on the common saying, “it takes a community to raise a child.”
“The simple fact of it is, is that we have to go back and say that it takes everyone to raise the community to be better. If you’re that person that says you’re a know it all, let me follow you around because I want to know what you know.”
Shields said that picking each others brains to learn more will eventually lead to making the community better.
“Don’t be afraid to look at the person all the way across to make your community better. That is the whole point of what we’re doing here, not only to pick the person’s brain but also to learn more because we know we don’t know it all because if you did you wouldn’t be here.”
Shields retired from the NFL in 2006 and now spends his time focusing on the foundation he created when he first started with the Chiefs, The Will to Succeed Foundation.
The Will to Succeed Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 organization that facilitates programs, provides assistance and resources to individuals, families and other charitable organizations who have little or no access to other aid within the Kansas City metro area.
