A student in USD 475 was arrested Tuesday in connection with the districts network outages.
The district fell victim to a cyber attack on February 13th, that essentially
shut down their internet services.
On Tuesday, IT Specialists with the district identified the source of the ongoing network problems and notified the Junction City Police Department.
Following an investigation a 16 year old male student within the district was arrested in connection with the network outages. According to Tim Brown, Police Chief, the outages were caused by an intentional act by the student.
Where and how the student committed the act is not being released at this time.
“Right now I think we are just going to stick to the fact that we are confident that he was responsible for it,” Brown said. “Where he did it each time is still under investigation but we think we have sufficient probable cause to charge him in connection with this incident.”
The Juvenile was arrested on charges involving suspicion of 10 counts of unlawful acts concerning computers. He is expected to be held at the North Central Kansas Juvenile Detention Center until his first appearance in Geary County District Court.
The matter is still under investigation by both USD 475 and the JCPD.
