Snow Removal Was a Topic at City Hall Thursday Night

Junction City’s city commissioners discussed the snow removal process around the city during Thursday nights commission meeting.

Commissioner Mike Ryan praised public works and Greg McCaffrey, junction city symbolMunicipal Services Director. “Greg, it’s pretty amazing what you’ve done with snow in town. Yeah it’s still pretty plugged up on the side streets but we can move around. I was surprised that some of the side streets were hit last night ( Wednesday).”

Commissioner Jim Sands had a request for the citizens of Junction City. “When it comes to equipment and moving snow, it may not be a snow emergency route but it is a heck of a lot nicer when it snows if you can get your vehicle off the street. It makes the snow plowing a whole lot easier because once the truck starts pushing the snow and that weight starts pushing back its hard to steer.”

Sands did say that he did know of one car that was clipped by a snow plow and that it is being taken care of.

Gerald Smith, City Manager, did apologize to those residents who are at the bottom of the rung when it comes to addressing those areas, specifically cul de sacs.

“Unfortunately that’s the reality when were trying to keep the main thoroughfares open and were trying to go through the list of arterial and other streets and roads, it’s like a triage, we have to keep the vast amount of traffic moving.”

Smith did say that when the city does get to the point where they have additional resources they may be able to “ratchet” up the ability to get to those streets that don’t see a plow for quite some time after a snow event.

Public works crews have been working non-stop since 2:30 a.m. Tuesday to clear the over 10 inches of snow that fell across the area Tuesday.
