Approximately four fires have been reported at the training areas on the north side of Fort Riley.
The first fire occurred sometime in the early afternoon Wednesday and
burned approximately 200 acres of training land. That fire has been fully contained by the Fort Riley Fire Department. The cause of this fire is unknown at this time.
A second fire was reported later in the afternoon and is about 95 percent contained and has burned approximately another 200 acres. The report shows that this fire was potentially started by pyrotechnics.
The Fort Riley Fire Department did put in place a pyrotechnics ban around 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. It is expected to remain in place throughout the night.
A third and fourth fire have also been reported. As of 5:50 p.m. the third fire was about 90 percent contained and fire crews are working to assess the fourth fire.
The fires are contained to the training areas on the north side of Fort Riley. No other information has been made available at this time.
