A 75 year old man has been identified as the victim of an early morning apartment fire in Herington.
Ronnie G. Holeman, 75, of Herington was found deceased inside his second
story apartment above a vacant business on Main Street in Herington early Monday morning.
The fire was reported at 2:33 a.m. Monday by a Herington Police Officer on patrol according to John Pritchard, Herington Police Chief,”He alerted the dispatch center in Abilene to page out the Herington Fire Department. When he got on scene there was already flames coming out of the windows.”
The building had two apartments on the second floor, one occupied by Holeman and the other vacant.
Pritchard said that Holeman’s apartment was gutted and the first floor of the building has extensive water damage. Cement and brick walls prevented the fire from spreading to the surrounding buildings Pritchard explained.
Two investigators with the State Fire Marshall’s Office have been sent in to investigate. An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
Both the Herington Fire Department and Police Department responded to the fire.
