The search for funding to pay for the proposed extension of East Street from Interstate 70 to Grant Avenue in Junction City is a topic familiar to U.S. Senator Jerry Moran.
He told JCPost.com he has been familiar with this issue since his days as a member of the U.S. House. He noted those funding decisions will be made back in Kansas…in Topeka. “We’ve always looked for a connection to military construction to try to tie any money that might be available under the military construction appropriation bill to that transportation project.”
Moran added local officials from Junction City have visited with him and his staff during the last month on the East Street project. “So it’s back, kind of front and center again. We’re looking for ways that we can be helpful.”
If the project ever occurs it could provide easier access to Fort Riley from I-70.
