More than 5,500 fans attended Madness in Manhattan at Bramlage Coliseum. It served as tip-off for the Kansas State basketball season.
The event, sponsored by K-State Federal Credit Union, began with the unveiling of new banners to the rafters of Bramlage Coliseum honoring the two programs’ championship heritage and their jersey retirees.
The Wildcat women’s basketball team held a 10-minute scrimmage with the Purple defeating the Black 14-11. Freshman Kindred Wesemann led all scorers with nine points on 3-of-4 fields for the Black squad. Junior Haley Texada paced the Purple team with seven points on 3-of-5 shooting.
The men’s scrimmage saw the Purple defeat the Gray 51-48 in a 15-minute scrimmage. Freshman Marcus Foster led all scorers with 15 points on 7-of-11 field goals for the Gray squad, while Thomas Gipson led the Purple with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
Justin Edwards won the dunk contest.
The K-State women’s team tips off the season on Monday night with an exhibition game against Washburn at 7 p.m. while the two teams play an exhibition doubleheader on Friday, Nov. 1 with the women hosting Alaska-Anchorage at 5:45 p.m. and the men following with Pittsburg State at 8 p.m. Fans who purchase a $10 bench and / or general admission ticket to the men’s exhibition on Friday also receive admission to the women’s contest.
