supporting this program which could allow the two local schools to become eligible to win a grant and possibly a concert by Grammy Award winner Kelly Clarkson.  It is also a show off suppor for teen drivers, helping them stay safe as they embark on the road ahead.

Schools across the nation are participating in this program. Junghans said by registering each school is eligible for 100 grants with amounts ranging from $25,000 to $100,000. “They win this by the most pledges to the school.  ”

You can begin voting Friday, Oct. 18 which is the beginning of U.S. National Teen Safety Driver Week.  You have to be 14 years of age or older to vote. Junghans added you can vote every day or pledge to be a safe driver from the 18th through Saturday, Oct. 26.

In conjunction with this program the State Farm Insurance Agents in Junction City will have activities at the Junction City Blue Jay – Washburn Rural football game Friday night ( Oct. 18 ). Jameson said the public can register then.  “We should have about 12 computers. People can come up to us and we’re going to show them and help them get registered, get started. They can actually vote on the 18th. ”  They will be located on the east end of the stadium where JCHS students with student ID’s may experience a seat belt simulated accident,  and you can drive a peddle car with vision impaired goggles.

During each quarter of the football game teens will win prizes if they are wearing the confirmation bracelets that they made their pledge at the stadium Friday evening.

According to Junghans, “Celebrate My Drive is a State Farm community signature program inviting the community to rally around and support teens as they get ready for the road ahead.”

Jameson explained, “But State Farm has found out that if we treat it as a celebration, because it is, really, when somebody gets their driver’s license that’s a great time. They should be happy and celebrate. And this is why Celebrate My Drive is promoting the celebration.”
